Been digging on that Mantles album as well... wish Siltbreeze would slow down their release schedule as I feel obligated to check all comers out. Not quite *as* excited about all the acts their releasing as when the label first sputtered back to life, but I haven't come across anything that I was less than pleased with yet... keeping my eyes peeled for the final Axemen reish, thought they were all supposed to be out in 2009...

Otherwise, finally scored a copy of Slowdive's Pygmalion that's been giving a nice Creation blush to the season. Amazing how different their proper albums are from one another, and I've gotta get familiar w/ their EPs and singles as well... on the Creation tip, been interested in exploring more of Ed Ball's discography after getting quite the rush from Teenage Filmstars, but there's a lotta stuff out there and I'm not sure what angles to work. Not so interested in the early super-mod stuff, but any recs would be well taken.

Somehow, even though Halloween has come and gone, been hankering for the Cramps and 45 Grave a bit as well. Good year 'round! apparently.

Just saw that some more Vinyl-on-Demand boxes dropped a few weeks back... anybody have any recommendations on these? Eyeing that Nurse With Wound one and curious if any of the others have piqued any interest 'round here... those things are quite the investment I gotta feel for the completists out there.

And tonight will be the virgin spin of my newly aquired copy of Pagan Altar's debut. Very excited for that one, indeed...
I think they're easily the number one punk item.

Thanx for the suggestions, I'll definitely try to hunt that stuff down.

Yes, I enjoy TVPs a great deal... I do have to check out O-Level. Any recs on that stuff?

Gosh I never heard an American mention Magazine. As it happens, I listened to Real Life yesterday and my son walked around with the scary sleeve on his head.

Sonic Youth is great. Try also Swedish epigon Bear Quartet. It's a really intelligent och funny band, sometimes in Swedish but mostly English-sung.

Ah I should have seen the link. I assumed people came to Magazine via The Buzzcocks.

Re Anita: I had the "Dirty Sings" EP (what a title!) when I was a teenager and I remember I put the Sister Sledge cover version on compilation tapes for a couple of girls I fancied. I've no idea what she's done since then though. Anything good?

Didn't Franz Ferdinand originally announce themselves as indie music girls can dance to? Do you believe in the existence of such a genre? At the age of 16 I believed that my lovelife might depend on developing specialist knowledge in this area.

This was recorded in 1997, the year the Swedish National Museum could buy back the album cover, Carl Larsson's monumental painting Mid Winter Sacrifice. The repurchase and reinstallment of the monumental painting, picturing the slayment of a mythological Edda king, evoked a serious racist debate in Sweden.

The painting is struck by misfortune. Since its completion in 1907 it has been withdrawn in 1911, 1915 and thus gravely questioned in 1997. Carl Larsson wrote in his memoirs: "The destiny of Mid Winter Sacrifice broke me down."

I guess the music, labelled on Cold Meat Industruy, reflects all this.

Swedish breakthrough El perro del mar deserves mentioning here. Listen to the latest album, Love is Not Pop, especially beautiful "Change of Heart". The singer's name is Sarah Assbring.
