revisting some julius eastman lately. eastman's a little known but great composer from the 60s/70s new york scene. he studied under feldman and was an early member of the s.e.m. ensemble. amazing stuff.

thx so much for that one. as i found out there is a (posthumous) 3 cd set around. do you now any other (earlier) recordings of mr eastman?


saw punk dandy vic godard and the subway sect playing live in front of a +/- 30 audience on friday. great show though. had to re-listen some of the stuff. this one is great:

I had not heard of Pascal Dusapin but I found some of his piano etudes on youtube and they sound quite nice. The harmony of many of these reminds me of that brief freely atonal time before serialism took hold beginning with Scriabin and into Schoenberg's early stuff. So much better than what came after.

This one is quite amazing:

Reminds me of Ligeti's fractured funk he learned from African polyrhythm, but still quite distinct from Ligeti.

I haven't been able to find any clips from his opera on the internets but I'll see if I can find some at the library, he sounds like an interesting composer and apparently well known in France? (according to wikipedia)

There's nothing wrong with personal taste, there's no explaining a lot of the music I like

That's very cool! So are you familiar with the operas of Pascal Dusapin? If so, what's your opinion? If not, you HAVE to check him out, it's really beautiful in my opinion (although as I've stated, my opinion is in now way grounded in any kind of in-depth knowledge: it's just personal taste)
