Listened to this before I had to go into hospital for treatment recently, always reminds me that things could be worse and I am grateful for what I have even if it isn't what I would always like.
Andrew McMahon wrote it for a friend's little brother, named Jack, who used to get bullied at school and was diagnosed with childhood leukemia. When Andrew started his own band he named it 'Jack's Mannequin' in reference to this song. Fate being what it is, Andrew was diagnosed with leukemia at 21, spent months hospitalized and undergoing chemo and radiation therapy, before undergoing a stem cell transplant on the day that the debut album was released. He actually filmed the whole experience when he was in hospital as a record, and it was turned into a documentary called Dear Jack. Really powerful. Although my autoimmune disease sucks, and I have spent seven years waiting to go into remission, I am thankful that I have never had to face what some of these guys face."Lots of people who think they are into fashion are actually just into shopping"

Neil Young... Old Man
Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.
Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.
Old man look at my life,
Twenty four
and there's so much more
Live alone in a paradise
That makes me think of two.
Love lost, such a cost,
Give me things
that don't get lost.
Like a coin that won't get tossed
Rolling home to you.
Old man take a look at my life
I'm a lot like you
I need someone to love me
the whole day through
Ah, one look in my eyes
and you can tell that's true.
Lullabies, look in your eyes,
Run around the same old town.
Doesn't mean that much to me
To mean that much to you.
I've been first and last
Look at how the time goes past.
But I'm all alone at last.
Rolling home to you.
Old man take a look at my life
I'm a lot like you
I need someone to love me
the whole day through
Ah, one look in my eyes
and you can tell that's true.
Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.
Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.
Are you afraid of women, Doctor?
Of course.

Blistering Pree, all smiling and swollen
Makes babies to breathe
With their hearts hanging open all over the sheets
As soft as beets in some brown dresser drawer
And with bees in her breath and the rest of her ringing
They'll sting through her chest with a force hard and beating
Till wonderfully wet she will get
Until she's soaked inside her clothes
And there is no sorry to be sorry for
For a roll around the floor some afternoon so sound and soft
It made her swallow all her sweat
With every bit of breath she coughs
And when the day it came to pour all her babies
All across the bathroom floor
She will be swimming in them all forever moreevery man has inside himself a parasitic being who is acting not at all to his advantage

... usually I am not a fan of Frusciante but this song is great... Brown Bunny OST. Recommended. Will rewatch the movie one day, too.

Glass Eights is very nice. Robert's Blame, Hesitate, and Mirror eps are recommendable as well, reminds me at times of an old fave, Daniel Ibbotson

Another great altoist, also sadly departed:
Best known for his work with Cecil Taylor, an amazing musician in his own right.
