RATKING have been on repeat since 700-Fill dropped back in March. If you've ever spent days cruising LES, Foco in hand before dropping at Punjabi Deli for lunch, you'll get it. Their aesthetic is concrete, embodying cultures they grew up and were nurtured within. Tunes that sound like roof tops and sk8-hi's. They're unquestionably New York even without lyrics about North Faces and Arnold Palmers. Sporting Life's slick production is stern while Wiki's snarly spitting parallels Hak's brooding poetics. If you're into the intersection of hip hop, skate, hardcore, graffiti, zine, and visual arts you need to give them a listen.

None of these sound remotely like Can, on the surface, but if you enjoy madmen screaming overtop of otherworldly, jagged grooves that sound unlike anything else, also check out The Fall, Captain Beefheart, and Bo Diddley. Alternatively, try scratching that itch with other krautrock classics like NEU! or Faust, if you haven't already.

Also, to save you time, don't bother with anything Can recorded after '74

Thanks for the suggestions! One of the things I like about Animal Collective is that in some songs they sound batshit insane (especially in their older records) and make me feel the same way when I'm listening to it. I suppose I'm looking for something along the lines of that. Something really experimental and amazing. I also like the kind of music that puts you in a trance like Boards of Canada seems to do.

Jordaan Mason and the Horse Museum - Divorce lawyers I shaved my head

Recently listened a lot to this album again, I had forgotten about it for a while. It's really a great listen, it's some sort of folk with crazy vocals. It's a concept album about the various challenges when one of the parts in a gay relationship decides to change their gender. The first line of the album is "my mouth is filled with his ovaries", and you already know you're in for a strange listen. The lyrics are top notch. Not for everyone, for sure, but definately one of my top 5 albums.
