      Using some generally acceptable definition, yes.</p>

      I agree with your original statement that genres are too complicated and generally not much help.</p>

      But, I refuse to label Still Life "hardcore punk".

            ok, here's the deal -- the term hardcore came from bands that knew a few chords and played them faster and noisier than the ramones. moss icon et al were interested in a completely different sound -- one defined by complex rhythms, passionate lyrics, and some franticness. depending on how far removed you were from these scenes, that's either a subtle distinction, or it's the difference between the beatles and ramones. the link that joey posted is essentially a catalog of the most important records for a very specific sub-genre that would be classified by very few as hardcore punk, and which counted still life, moss icon, and raein as important components.

              bout the only thing "emo" i still listen to these days is the gravity recs roster.
              antioch arrow and clikatat ikatowi still manages to clear up the morning cranks easy.</p>

                              the songs with organs were by far my favorite of theirs, i need to dig up that 12" with the Otto/Man with the Golden arm cover. heh
