very fun read, much better than venus in furs as far as I remember. I bought it because of the story about Countess Bathory, but I haven't read that one yet. The firts 2 stories were very enjoyable, with a kitsh but entertaining depiction of an unreal orientalist russian empire where the cruellest despots become enslaved by lust to their favourite female slave. it's a very fetichistic imagination (fur, blonde hair, buxom bodies, the woman resting her feet on the man's head or chest etc) so it can be slightly repetitive, but since the texts are quite short it's not too bad.
The foreword has some interesting point but I found the writing style a bit annoying
"He described this initial impetus as like discovering that they both were looking at the same intriguing specific tropical fish, with attempts to understand it leading to a huge ferocious formalism he characterizes as a shark that leapt out of the tank."

Read this in a Zalamea essay, and I'm intrigued:
"Warburg’s works (1889-1929) on the Renaissance of Pagan Antiquity show how art criticism is a form of seismography which uncovers whole trends of thought by the exploration of small aesthetic residuals."

Those models embrace a single common mindset in their outfits, wearing black hats, black pea coats, black t-shirts, black skinny pants, and black shoes with black bags... Random wannabe bullshits are on a public catwalk in Paris.
