Watched LUST CAUTION by Ang Lee
its a very intriguing Espionage story set in China during WWII beautifully shot and well acted but could have been a lot better if he can just figure out how to shorten the scenes Some of the build up is just unnecessary ... It only ever worked for Crouching Tiger/Dragon.

Looks like they are only available in Undercover stores in japan if google translate got it right.

I like the front, but not so much the back. Don't really think it's worth the price+proxy fees and shipping. I'm still tempted though. I'd rather have the book to be honest, quite a bit cheaper as well.

Slightly more on topic, just watched:

Very good film, Beautiful cinematography and great atmosphere.
I think the story is quite flawed in places, and not all the character work equally well. Still, the parts that do work work very well.

The disturbing opening sequence of 'Sombre', by Philippe Grandrieux. Note: the kids were filmed in a puppet theatre, and are screaming things such as "catch ...

I really like Grandieux, seen La Vie Nouvelle so many times and still surprise me, he knows how to made very disturbing films, very unique and full of dense atmospheres.

this was awesome. i gotta find this film...reminds me of The Shining and the disturbing sound editing/effects are on par with the first part of Noe's Irreversible (wonder if he did the same thing here w/ that frequency trick that induces nausea/malaise)

I started watching The Band of Brothers yesterday. Pretty good so far. Cinematography is outstanding. Blu-Ray certainly helps the matter.

                        Fantastic film.

Don't mean to offend the elders here, but how do you guys find out about some of these movies? They're very much off the beaten path... Not mainstream (or whatever you'd like to call it) at all. Thanks to KG (private tracker for indie/foreign films) I've found a few films people have recommended or spoken of in this thread (an english fansub of Heroic Purgatory), but I don't at all consider myself knowledgeable in these things, so some insight would help. Thanks..
How do you guys like the fit of my new CCP suit?

Same way they (I say they, because I am not one of them) find out about GrandMA+, I would imagine.

Something to do with the Maurizio Altieri's apprentices?

Seriously though, I'm interested in how you guys know what you do about such a broad spectrum of topics, and from a more narrow point of view, film. I'm planning on taking some film study classes this coming year along with the rest of my curriculum, but I'm not sure how much we're going to get into the more obscure side of cinema. Growing up in the suburban midwest in the US hasn't helped my chances much, I'm sure, but that said, I'd like to learn more.

I'm with Enaml here, I'm curious as to how many of you manage to find out about many of the bands, movies, books and art that you seem to know about. I'm 19 years old and am looking to improve my knowledge of these things but don't really know where to start. Growing up in a small town near Vancouver doesn't help either.
