In my opinion, the best time to experience Eraserhead... while the wife is expecting the first child. Finally replaced my Japanese laserdisc version that was stolen some time ago.

Been sick for two days at home so I'v watched a few recently:

    Memories of murder (Joon-ho)
Midori (Harada) thanks Maldoror and Wire!
    L'age d'or (bunuel)
Bill Viola selected works - janus laserdisc
    Death powder (Izumiya)
    Persona (Bergman)

    and... Meet the feebles (Jackson)

sharits is so fucking next level. I think I've seen 4 of his installations in person beginning w the genius show 'into the light" show in 2001 at the Whitney. his films w case study shock treatments and epileptic seizure comparison are beyond. check his drawings too. Greene naftali did a show a couple years back. he was fucking hard. too bad he killed himself in 93. I would have loved to see his work respond to this social networking maelstrom

Watched Art of the Steal. Raised some interesting issues although it certainly seems rather aggressively one-sided (perhaps understandably so) but I'd be interested to hear more from the other side. I can imagine a lot of their argument is probably about 'the public' which was already fairly well tread territory in the documentary, however.

Watched this yesterday... Julio Chavez - El Otro. Recommended!
Looking forward to see Antonioni's "Professione: Reporter" in the near future, which has a similar plot.

Been watching a lot of Japanese cinema for a course I'm taking.

This scene. Over and over. I've done some reading on it from various sources (one that stood out to me was Yoshida's from Ozu's Anti-Cinema)... It's an interesting issue to consider, the role of these shots in Ozu's films. Yoshida's analysis discusses the vase shots as a means to draw the attention away from the Edipal messages that were unintentionally built up beforehand... I'm not sure I buy into this, as it could be interpreted as Yoshida projecting his own ideas onto the film... But this is what is beautiful about it, it's very ambiguous and open to subjective responses. The screen is indeed looking at the viewer in a way.

I guess I hadn't had much exposure to Ozu beforehand (beyond Tokyo Story), but his stylistic choices really resonate with me.
How do you guys like the fit of my new CCP suit?

i know what you mean wire, the idea of 'fictional things' is always a style inspiration of mine. One thing I loved about Martin Amis' novel Money is how it goes into all this fictionalization of objects without articulating exactly what they are; Machete's trailer as it appeared in the Grindhouse feature had that appeal - something that could exist on its own in a particular world but never fully spelled out in this one.

                          I'll still watch it though.

Yeah... that's the movie I was talking about. Should arrive today, will watch this weekend. Did you like it?

Saw Butterfly Effect yesterday and I quite liked it... Entertaining, yet thought-provoking (at least for me).

I am prone to watch Requiem for a Dream again. But ... I feel scared in a way. The thing totally absorbed me the last time I've seen it and, along with the characters, I took the spiral downwards.
Maybe Pi is a good substitute? Has anybody seen this movie and can recommend it?

i wouldn't say Pi is a great movie, but it's certainly well worth watching as an interesting study in style. it showed a lot of promise/talent and for it's budget was very engrossing if that's what you're going for. if you loved requiem and haven't seen it before i'm sure you'll get a kick out of it.

i just finished watching lars von trier's Kingdom miniseries. what a bummer that it got cancelled before ending. wish i knew that ahead of time because it started out really interesting, but got a bit whacko for a while there. still, a show well worth watching compared to most. wish they would just release the finishing scripts for shows like this and Carnivale that just end way too early to tie things up.
