caught Robert Altman's Short Cuts the other day - great film but kind of heavy. Made me want to go back and revisit Carver's fiction for the first time since English class in grade 11.

Casey Affleck's "I'm Still Here" with Joaquin Phoenix. THis is a better piece of performance art than anything James Franco or Marina Abramovic have come up with.

Saw Andrei Tarkowski' Solaris the other day... I am simply amazed by this man's work. Another great flick. Although I personally preferred The Mirror... But those are completely different movies anyway so I probably shouldn't put them on a scale. Next up: Stalker.

I saw Mary and Max by Adam Elliot yesterday. Was a pretty good movie but somehow these tragicomedian comic movies really pull me down :-\
Looking forward to watch "Des hommes et des dieux" in the next few days (thanks to Klang for the recommendation).

Watched Exit Through the Gift Shop, and liked it contrary to my own expectations. I thought it was an excellent portrayal about how art/artists are not made but manufactured these days. I don't have a settled opinion on Banksy, but I have a new-found respect for him.

Also watched Soul Kitchen. I did not dislike it, but Akin is so much better at dramas.

Sooo I recently saw "My son, my son what have ye done?" by Werner Herzog. Thanks to NotoriousT, was a great movie with an awesome soundtrack.

And yesterday, I finally got to watch "Des Hommes et des Dieux" in cinema. I think Klang mentioned it just shortly after the Cannes festival. One of the best movies I've seen recently, that's for sure.

Sofia Coppola's Somewhere, i liked it a lot, better than Lost in Translation.

watching Jim Jarmusch's Broken Flowers later on tonight...

anybody know the best places to check for end of the year film lists for movie nerds?

saw Mister Lonely by Korine last night. as usual for Korine, some really great moments in a film that otherwise misses it's mark. definitely worth seeing though since watching Korine have his fun is still more enjoyable than most anything else out there. the play and it's aftermath was a great way of making his point though. my xon, my son... was good, but i'd rather see Herzog just do a lot more acting and dstick to documentaries at this point though.

also saw Nobody Knows recently. perhaps a bit too long and slow for most folks, but great camera work with the kids and the rewards for sticking through it all dare efinitely there. i don't know why, but while i was watching it it really made me reflect on the necessities in life and how we all must be crazy.

hey matt what a coincidence broken flowers is the next movie on my list.

watched 35 shots of rum earlier tonight.

just saw Broken Flowers, it was my first experience with Jarmusch and I loved it, the movie just clicked, especially the whole 'nowhereness' aspect of it...right down my alley especially as of the kind of creativity i've been thinking about as of late.
