            Tried watching The Turin Horse.
Film description should read, "A beautifully shot reenacted anthropological study in a day of a 19th Century Hungarian peasant." It's so slow that you can go make yourself a cup of coffee and you won't miss anything. In a scene where the daughter boils the potatoes I was half expecting that Tarr will show the entire cooking process. I would not have been the least bit surprised.

The opening scene is indeed amazing though, as is the howling wind atmosphere (nicely juxtaposed with the deadness of the house).

Also watched Haneke's White Ribbon. That was good. It was nice to hear in his interview that he was partly inspired by August Sander, and (like Yamamoto) used his photos to make the costumes for the film.

The images are really striking but for those actually attempting to watch this I suggest reading this article first, it might give you some idea of what to expect.

                      The Flowers of War

This is an emotional film, really well done...

And the female lead is attractive.

You provide some seriously good, unconventional recommendations Acéphale! Ventura does arte povera so well. My favorite scene is when they are listening to that Cape Verdean independence song while the record is skipping.
