Re: Photography is truth. The cinema is truth twenty-four times per second: The cinema thread
how was sunshine? i've been meaning to watch that.
I liked the first half, but the (let's just call it) deus ex machina of the second part was so totally ridiculous, that I stopped taking the movie seriously after that point. It's hard to say more without giving stuff away, but you'll know what i mean if you watch it. [73] I think the movie--and especially Cillian Murphy--really wound up suffering from poorly written dialogue. It's certainly worth seeing entertainment-wise though, and some of the visuals with the sun are pretty cool.

Fuuma, would love to hear your take take on Pan's Labyrinth. I keep wanting to watch it a second time, but not quite ready for such an intense experience again.

Tonight I will be watching my first superhero movie. Honestly.

If you are a fan of Takeshi Kitano, I highly recommend his more recent work Takeshi's ... explaining the plot would ruin the surprise and delight a first viewing may bring. It's very different from his previous work, but the sarcastic, biting humor is still intact, which was always one of the things i loved about Beat...plus Yohji Yamamoto is the costume designer for this film, so that's another incentive to watch it ;)

Batman Begins. It almost made it to a "watchable" category, almost. Interesting cast, I thought, although I'm really tired of Morgan Freeman being type-casted ever since Seven (which was brilliant).

Not a huge superhero movie fan myself either. like old superman with christopher reeves, etc. but i did enjoy this one. I thought Christian Bale's portrayal of Batman was good, a certain darkness about it that i liked. not so bright purple and lively as the others. never seen spiderman movies, think someday maybe...maybe during the next flu.

Speaking of Berlin, I watched The Lives of Others yesterday. Excellent film [Y]. If you want to see a work that reflects the paranoia of Socialist governments and how it resulted in destroying people's lives and culture, watch this. Good film counterpart to the likes of Milan Kundera and Norman Manea.
