Re: LOST

A very rainy weekend, so i stay home with my gf and watch some films:

    - Caotica Ana/ Julio Medem

    - Cashback/ Sean Ellis

    - 4 Months, 3 Weeks & 2 Days/ Cristian Mungiu

    - Paranoid Park / Gus Van Sant

Really liked all , maybe in this order:

    1- 4 months..., 2-Caotica Ana, 3- Cashback and 4-Paranoid Park

I must said that Gus Van Sant is in top form, and this sort of thematic sequel to elephant is pretty interesting, a little bit dreamy and poetic but well acted and not over pretentious, not a masterpiece but a very good exercise in filming.

Julio Medem is surreal and strange as ever, with very beautiful images and dizzy narrative, the ending is weird and very hard but i really liked and to me gives sense to the story (as opposite as a lot of the critics and detractors of this polemical movie)

The Birds is one of my all time scariest movies... not scary in the sense of heart dropping or thriller but its the repeditiveness (SP) if that is a word - it really kind of freaks me out- even though you know what to expect in the room... it just freaks me out. [79]

It's a bad time for movies but if you can leave your critical thinking cap at home I would suggest The Happening above all.

True. Summer to the rest of the movie year is what the new york times sunday edition to the rest of the week.

I'm an enormous Pixar fan and I'm really excited to see this. Reviews look impeccable but I thought that Ratatouille played better with the critics than it actually was, although the art and direction was spectacular. I highly recommend The Art of Ratatouille (or any of the Pixar-related art books), especially if you're an illustration nerd like me.

edit: another good one was the art book for Open Season. I heard the movie was weak but it's an interesting look at applying strong 2D design to 3d environments. I wish the film had looked more like Eyvind Earle's work (which they reference constantly) but it looked pretty decent anyway.

Been watching big american blockbusters and some other recent american movies. Of those I'd definitely recommend Femme fatale, DePalma is in top form.

Watching a bunch of Woody Allen movies for now; don't bother with Cassandra's dream and go straight for the classics. I had never seen shadows and fog and must say I was impressed by this farsical movie about fascism inspired by german impressionism.
