Watched Garden State last night. It was Ok - cute, but very schematic in its plot and characters.

What about Choke? Looks like it could be good... It think it should be in more theaters this week, trying to catch it tonight maybe.

Someone told me it sucked and that the book is much better. I don't know. I did not read any reviews, but I usually trust the NYT.

If Choke is by Palahniuk like I remember it being then I assure you that as bad as the movie may be the book is no better.

I thought that book wasn't bad, actually. Not as good as Fight Club maybe, but I would say his second best (it's between that and Invisible Monsters). Anyway, once you read Fight Club + any other Palahniuk's book, you've read him all. His writing is very schematic.

Honestly, I feel like schematic is being too kind. By the time I got to the third book (After enjoying Fight Club and being intrigued by Survivor) I had to stop like four chapters in.

Finally saw "in Bruges" and quite enjoyed it.

Watching Rome and Heroes (I rarely watch TV series).

I though "In Bruges" was excellent. It started out seeming like an (enjoyable) genre exercise and then it completely blew me away.

                          Well worth a second viewing.

watched cafe lumiere this week... a bit disappointed as i thought it lacked the spirit and charm of ozu... seemed more like an imitation than an homage i guess.

                              watched recently:

                              Nakagawa's jigoku (criterion)
                              Nakagawa's kaidan-kasanegafuchi
Franju's eyes without a face (criterion)
                              Cronenberg's naked lunch (criterion)
                              Gordon's from beyond

I'm taking a break from work, plenty of time for movies.

Watched Gone Baby Gone. I thought it was very good, even if the whole story looked a bit contrived. Haven't seen a tragedy, in the full sense of the word, in a very long time.
