That's been the main criticism (only?) of CCP boots is that he uses YKKs. I personally don't have a problem with them but for others, people have had the pulls snap off which is terrible. Mine are still holding strong though....

man the scarred boots are so so sick.....

I really think YKK zippers are much better than riri zippers. I've got a riri zip on a pair of nice collective pants and on a jan and carlos sweater. Both get stuck all the fucking time. All my technical outdoor gear is made with YKK zippers, and they work day to day, in snowstorms, whenever. The riris are prettier, but not worth the hassle of being stuck all the time.

Those look like a watered down version of his usual boots, they almost look like something a cowboy would wear... Can those who have seen them in person expand on why they like them? Should I chalk it up to different aesthetic preferences or is there something I am missing and that pictures can't convey (wouldn't be the first time with CCP).

YKK is a respectable Japanese zipper manufacturer who's been in business since the 40's (IIRC). They are just as good. It more depends on what kind of a zipper a designer chooses to use from a given manufacturer - each makes a variety. Anyway, if ti were my vote, I'd say Lampo is overall better than either YKK or riri. And no one still apparently knows who makes the "RY" zippers that Rick and Ann use.

the color is really fantastic on both, they are the classic shape, i wouldn't call them watered down, they look and feel fresh, leather is supple.

I like the fact that carol just moves his design forwards just a liittttlle bit each season. The leather is straight baller on these. The texture if you see them up close is delicious.

Oh c?mon, did I hurt your feelings by disliking those boots? Not all aesthetic choices possess the same inherent worth; we assign value to objects and ideas and then communicate our perceptions and hopefully have an interesting discussion on our points of agreement and disagreement. Concluding that everything is a matter of personal taste and leaving it at that puts any and every choice on the same level, leaving no room for the growth of our capacity for aesthetic appreciation and the knowledge that backs it up. Monetary value put aside, would you say a painting of dogs playing pocker is the same as a Picasso and it?s all down to taste or are there quality inherent to the Picasso that distinguish it from the dogs? I?ll continue passing judgment on other?s taste, and I am certain you will do the same.
