I read a long time ago that some tattoo enthusiasts planned on having their bodies skinned once they died so that the tats could be appreciated on the wall framed by their friends and family... can't find the article anymore after a cursory search :(
Berluti and a few other lower end companies have dabbled in a method of tattooing leather before using it in shoe construction. Something I had thought about a bit but am as of yet not 100% sure how to proceed. Nevertheless, it's a neat concept. I thought of it after I saw the Av/Intervallo horween boots that included the tattooed section of the pigskin. With the right skin and the right tat, a garment could look downright amazing.
edit- here's a link to a company that does tattooed leather furniture:

maldoror, that's exactly the stuff I was looking for. There's a level of callousness involved... since the animal has to suffer through the tattooing, but the final result is very cool.
my understanding is that the pigs are doped out of their mind during the tattoo process, to wit: they don't feel a thing. I'll give you a documentary on wim delvoye when we meet up. he's one of my favorite artists working today, and a truly brilliant person
perhaps one day pipcleo will post a wywt so non-euclydian & eldrich in its shapes as to turn all onlookers into throngs of dishevelled, muttering idiots
