altieri built a team; and marketed the 'team' factor as a 'family' - a greater whole beyond the individual... while amadei and luca keep to themselves and choose to concentrate on producing beautiful work quietly... which doesn't predicate who is original and who is not... they all are, in their own ways.

I'm certainly no Carpe expert, but just judging by the information I've gathered from speaking with consumers, designers, shop owners, buyers, random people on the internet, SZ, etc, I think I'm closer to siding with Masugnen here. Altieri was king, and everyone else who worked for him, learned from him, and almost definitely contributed less than they gained. You think Amadei went from cutting leather for Fendi to master craftsman with a book full of genius patterns overnight? No one knew who Amadei was before maybe the final year or two of Carpe's existence. I'm not saying Amadei did nothing, but I'm willing to bet that a high high percentage of Carpe was Altieri's designs. I understand that Carpe was a team effort, but Altieri wasn't only the leader, he was the ideas man and the head designer. Don't get me wrong, I like ma+. Probably because it's basically the same patterns as Carpe. Amadei's “innovations” were the development of wallets and bags under his own line, post-Carpe. Accessories. He's a smart guy, an intelligent businessman, and a master of deja vu design. After Altieri ended Carpe, Amadei saw there was now room for something "new"... and more importantly a large clientele with nothing to buy. I'm not saying that other designers don't do the same thing, but I more often see Amadei put on the same level as Altieri, and that is simply not the case.
