finally recieved an answer from florence. my card has been refunded, but not for the total amount which I paid, they want me to cover the shipping myself, which is £60. I don't think I should have to pay for broken things, but apparently they do. I'm not happy at all.
Just thought everyone in here should know.

I have the tall medges from fall. Wear them twice weekly since New Year's. Have been as expected; slightly painful after work hours have elapsed but still in perfect condition. Perhaps someone with a show construction background can illuminate us on the durability of the tall vs. the shortIt has been a very difficult year

From what I've figured out, there have been two issues, one being the side "seams" busting open, one being the base snapping in two. The tall medges have a wider ankle, so the pressure on the ankle when you flex it as you walk has not stretched the ankle as much as it does on the ankle boots where the shaft has been tight to the ankle.

Interesting you mention the ankle. I recently got a pair from J_J (women's, and I'm praying they don't break after hearing your sad story Heirloom) I noticed the first time I wore them with regular weight socks my right foot (the larger foot) began to hurt around the ankle, but I wore them again with stockings (thin tights) and the problem was gone. Try lighter weight hosiery?
