Don't mean to derail the thread but what would you clarify what you mean by political correctness:

This collection was really an eye-opener for me. I was really excited about the models employed, though I'm kind of wondering if it was a reaction to Naomi calling him (among others) out on their whitewashed runways. (Granted, the accusation in question is directed at his menswear, and it was addressed only threeish weeks before the show, but I still think it's an interesting coincidence).

I also wonder if the choice of angry facial expressions were really ideal. I've heard a lot of debate about that one, and many people feel that the models may appear to be caricatures of "the angry black woman."

Political correctness is treated as such a dirty phrase. I'm not sure it's what I had in mind, but you can't argue that there's no desire to challenge oppressive social norms here. He's quoted in the style.com review; "We're rejecting conventional beauty, creating our own beauty." The choice of these models were really a huge "f*ck you" to a crowd that idealizes a the traditional model.

The video is great, I loved seeing the clothes displayed with such dynamic motion. I now personally feel like the facial expressions were actually perfect for this show.

I'm not sold on this whole thing. I don't find it sincere and essentially just a gimmick in itself to garner more press.

It's kinda like when someone calls morrissey a racist and then in order to clear his name with the public or any possible internal guilt, he donates to some anti-racism charity.

I'm not saying Rick is a racist, but he is definitely just trying to be something in the eyes of people and the media.

thats what should matter..I mean this is a guy who use to say runways shows are not his thing,. Except now hes all about spectacles, and not really about designing I guess. I mean shit, everyone has their good runs and then they start crapping out. Some know how to exit more gracefully I guess.


I guess he has a "tribe" now though, so in other eyes he's a big success. I can go into allsaints talking to sales reps about him, but if I bring up Boris or something they look at me puzzled. I don't even care about the fact that his name is bigger now, but its come with watered down design, adidas sneakers, and ugly ass sunglasses. I guess there definitely is a "uniform" out there for now with his aesthetic more than ever though.

but, he's never used conventionally beautiful models, as he claims to rebuke. Instead, now he goes for an extreme counter stereotype which is sorta offensive in itself, if you really wanna split hairs.

Is it even about the clothing anymore?
