wondering where church's get their cordovan from if that is so

I was under the impression that Horween was the main supplier of SHELL cordovan, whereas regular cordovan is widely available elsewhere. Maybe I'm wrong.

As far as I know, Guidi produces it as well.

I don't think so.

If a tannery makes cordovan leather, why would it waste the "shell" leather?

I am guessing that Horween is just one of the last bigger producers?

Cordovan is always shell cordovan. It just means the leather got it's name from the city of Cordoba (think Toledo steel or any other regional specialty). Regular horse leather is called "horse leather".

to add to the mess and confusion, my leather supplier told me they would hopefully soon be able to provide me with cordovan. When asked about the source and if it was from Horween they said no and that it would be coming from Europe.....

There are several Euro suppliers from what I know, nothing surprising here.

I wrote a response but then did some looking online. Horween is just the only North American tannery that produces cordovan.

Yeah. Why are you asking if you're not doubting? Keep in mind if there's something that get confused and is often misused it is construction/materials terms.

Never been a fan of Augusta booties, but I'm digging the shell cordovan pair. Not enough to buy them though. I think.

I think the Atelier buy looks amazing. There's quite a few pairs I'd love to pick up. Particularly the ankle lace boot.
Anyone have any experience with the Kudu leather? I hear it's very light, yet durable.
