THE FIRST FACTORY BADGE FAC 21 Spring 1980 Description: Color Maroon and silver Status very rare Designed by Peter Saville, Manufactured by Johnson's Engravers, Leeds. Spring 1980 400 made in maroon with a later 200 in black. F design was not in fact Factory's F but the Fractured Music logo, Fractured Music being Joy Division's publishing arm. From an original idea by Durutti Column guitarist Dave Rowbotham who, late one night in Strawberry studios, suggested Factory do a badge "like a prefect's badge, you know, enamel". Dave was later to die in a vicious axe murder that was memorialized in the Happy Mondays song, "Cowboy Dave."
