that's actually from SS2001. i must add that the lacerated leather trunks peeking out from the pants is quite an interesting look to commit to. the perforations come in triangles and circles too.
Noted. And an overdue thank-you for the heads up. :)
Indeed, interesting little piece – one which reveals more of the designer than the wearer, figuratively speaking. Think about it. Cut dresses & blazers from leather and nobody blinks; stick a lambskin speedo on the runway, however, and you've just silently told the world more about yourself than any interview could ever pull.
Switching gears to something actually shocking, this early Lang "creation" continues to baffle me:
The 'cat-boobs' bodysuit:
..shot for Vogue Paris. November, 1989.
Another view. Same cats, different boobs:
Being the total antithesis of Lang's aesthetic, I imagine it had to be a commissioned design
for something or another. At least that's what I'll keep telling myself..
thank you interest1 for that great haul of really vintage lang. that cat-suit (har har) is kinda fetching. and i totally agree with the nuances helmut left with the press after showcasing a perforated lambskin speedo!

. . . that quirky harvey nichols ad. NICE HELMUT
Ah, touché. You know the man's gotta have a wicked sense of humor, despite the restraint he shows in front of the press. So though the ad was tricked out by Harvey Nic's instead of Lang's own camp, I've little doubt he devoured its doublespeak. .
And talk about ballsy! (sorry. couldn't resist that.)
While we're on the subject of AD HUMOR, no better time to pull this one out:
VISIONAIRE devoted their 1995 Spring issue (no.14) to parodying the media, aptly titled HYPE!
“destefashioncollection’’ is a novel approach to evaluating and interpreting fashion conceived by the Deste Foundation for Contemporary Art. Each year the Foundation commissions artists familiar with the fashion industry to choose five striking designs from that year to interpret visually and/or verbally. In other words, the artist or curator is asked to select five fashion items and create from them five related works for a “capsule collection.” The goal is to create parallels between the actual objects and the interpretations which will lead the viewer to a deeper understanding of how fashion can be perceived by the experienced eye. At present, destefashioncollection is a project with an estimated duration of five years (2007 -2011). In conjunction with the project there will be at least one exhibition of the capsule collections, providing a fruitful dialogue between fashion and art.

those kidrobot toys once tempted me. thanks for rekindling that fire. but the entire army is a little scary.
if the above were to be available on the bay i believe i may just bid on it. and i think someone did put up the modular furniture that was in the helmut lang stores and it sold for quite a good sum.
