No (5 char). Helmut was gone already and Fast Retailing bought it specifically to turn it into a contemporary fashion brand. That's right, Uniqlo owns Helmut Lang now

For a twisted game of Who Wore It Better?, I put these two images together after realizing they were shot about 10 years apart.

I imagine Jean Kilbourne rolling her eyes at the contrast: the campaign image quietly reflecting strength with layered perfection; the Purple Mag editorial devolving the scenario by turning essentially the same pair of pants into a glorified garter belt. Fucking yawn. Doubly so, coming from them.

Helmut's clothes had a built-in sex appeal. There was no need (and no intention) to try too hard. Of course we can't control how others might translate them, which makes the way that he did just that much more special.
