Nonetheless, I also cannot help but point out how some of the Prada-era Helmut Lang wasn't exactly great, either. A lot of the fabrics and fabrication quality were more on par with Hugo Boss rather than the high-end luxury market (I would go as far as to say that some product categories from Uniqlo Jil Sander were on par with it). There is a reason why Helmut's market stagnated in the early 2000's while Dior Homme enjoyed a healthy growth.

I've seen those last few collections in their entirety in the showroom and while I look back thinking that the runway edit was beautifully rigorous, this didn't always derive into a similarly strong ready-for-retail collection.

I think this is a very interesting point and I would be grateful if you could elaborate a little bit. I have a fair amount of stuff from 2002 onwards and I have to say that the quality is OK to good. The suits were never too great imo.
