What are some of your favorite costume designs and who are the designers behind them?

Personally, I don't really care too much about period pieces. I prefer the costume designs seen in sci-fi films. For example, some of my favorites are:

        Jean Paul Gaultier's work on:

        City of Lost Children
        The Fifth Element

I also loved the designs in:

Blade Runner (Roy Batty's coat is my favorite)
        Alien
        Eden Log
        Equilibrium

What are some of your favorite films to watch, specifically for the costume design?
        Blade Runner was definitely awesome

              Michiko Kitamura

I also would like to say Eiko Ishioka is one of the top costume designers I ever know. (Bram Stokers Dracula)
Michiko Kitamura also do a good work in Casshern. Unfortunately there are not so many pictures....

+1...also Yohji for Takeshi Kitano's "Takeshi's" the two have a good rapport as far as their mutual commonalities in aesthetic/cerebral philosophy

I thought Blue Velvet had an interesting line-up of wardrobes...especially the dandified edge of Hopper and Stockwell's characters in contrast to everything else. Also something of a tragic beauty in Rossellini's styling.

Badlands - Martin Sheen's character with the simple template of all denim + white t-shirt to go with the persona's twisted idolization of James Dean. One of the best uses of the simple "t-shirt" ethos in wardrobe styling in film imho. And the scene where Sheen throws on the stolen seersucker blazer and cream fedora over his get up is classic.

And WKW/Chang are at their best when working with their romantic imaginings of 60s Hong Kong, when working in a contemporary setting I feel it doesn't work as well (Fallen Angels, Chungking Express strike me as quite contrived, characteristic of 90s Hong Kong fluff, albeit a more highbrow version. although Happy Together was well done, but that one always felt a bit out of time, or timeless to me)

Rather than the frequently cited American Gigolo, 9 1/2 Weeks does a better job serving as a fossilized time capsule of a certain standardized 80s look/feel - substantially empty and cold, but packaged with a stylish, glitzy and decadent exterior. Snyder's cinematic translation of Watchmen also did a good job of recapturing the same tones, with his use of colors and textures. Ironically, a movie like that wouldn't have been in the actual decade...kinda like Decarnin's Balmain, I suppose lol

Wanted to bring this up. Blade Runner rules. Roy Batty's coat is sooooo desirable.

Tron Legacy streetwear – I can't find any pictures of them, but the clothes the other prisoners are wearing when Sam is arrested are awesome. If anyone can find some pictures of that scene, let me know.

the fall is such an amazing film.
I happened to see bits of Nanny Mcphee on when it was on tv and I thought the costumes were quite well done.
