I sized up 1.5-2 sizes on my kangaroo ankle boots, would've been best with 1-1.5 sizes after some wear.

Yer. fumma seems to know the most about it I think but cordovan is the 'rump' of the horse and it is due to it being such a small area of the hide that they are so much more expensive. Durable as hell though, my augusta cordovan boots were awesome, best leather I've come across, almost bought the wrap augusta thermic awlouie was selling just because the leather is so nice.

Cordovan is simply short for shell cordovan.
Shell cordovan (or cordovan) is a type of leather commonly used in shoemaking. Cordovan is an equine leather made from the fibrous flat muscle (or shell) beneath the hide on the rump of the horse.

My apologies, I was told cordovan was simply horse leather where as shell cordovan is exactly what you have quoted above. Thank you for the correction.
