Who the hell is designing it? I know they've been a "guest" couture house for a while, but can't they make one of the requirements that they have to at least list the name of the designer(s).

Dude, there is a vote but the main idea is that if you have been invited for at least 2 yrs and answer to the technical criteria (i.e. how the clothes are made, your team etc) you're supposed to get in. Margiela does so it makes total sense they'd apply and get it. Keep in mind almost no one actually answers the tech criteria to get the HC appellation. This stuff is about artisanship.

the intention by only the brave must be to try to offset the current over-exploitation of the brand. even IF awarded membership only on actual merits, the cynical strategy behind such a move is objectionable, in light of the brand heritage.

(and don't and try to tell me committee decisions are not also highly political and pragmatic in nature. money and power gets you far.)
