i dunno if faust would really be into east coast golden era, aside from maybe a tribe called quest... so i would basically recommend that, along with something like pharcyde, or g-funk type shit.

If you didn't know the title of the song and you just heard the chorus you would have no idea what the fuck he's saying.
Basically the vocoder is used for those that can't sing.
..yet this is top of the charts.www.AlbertHuangMD.com - Digital Portfolio Of Projects & Designs

It's not like he's trying to put one over on anyone, though - people know that he couldn't perform that song without autotune. It's at the top of the charts because it's an infectious pop song, not because people are wowed by Kanye's vocal talents. I don't mind it, maybe because it reminds me of listening to old Zapp & Roger songs as a kid.

I have just been introduced to the music of Kanye West, and on SZ!
A somewhat odd experience and definitely not a pleasant one ...
Thank you SZ and shame on you Raf Simons! Are you afraid of women, Doctor?
Of course.

The more I listen to it, I think this will end up being one of his better known songs - the sort of thing that will be on college kid playlists 15 years from now. Also - I can understand all of the lyrics, and I think they're actually pretty good, for what the song is.

i have a question: why has it suddenly become the popular thing in hiphop/rap/etc. to use the vocoder? somehow i feel like they are over-using it...as if they have just discovered its existence
