There's one opening up in San Francisco although I wonder if it have all the ingenuity of its New York counterpart.

The one in LA is certainly rather subpar.

The one in SF is long overdue. The Neiman Marcus in Union Square is a dinasour - Barneys can knock it out of business in two years.

I find San Francisco shopping mediocre. Even for classical clothing, there's not much choice save for the usual suspects although they do have the fascinatingly dated Cable Car Clothiers.

Yea, it looks like the city lacks the WASP elite of NYC and Boston, and it also lacks a powerful financial sector. The Silicon Valley millionaires aren't exactly into things sartorial. Somehow Bill Gates & Co have decided that geeks must be decidedly awfully dressed in order to give themselves credibility. It makes sense - good clothes may take away one's time from thinking about serious things.
