rich scenesters in asia.
as cintra wilson pointed out in her review of the dior reopening in new york, labels are changing to meet the sizing/tastes of clients in east asia.
case in point: just check out all of that ccp footwear on ink's website that (to my eyes) looks fucking stupid.
if any of us tried to post those kicks in a waywt, we'd have our balls ripped off.
i find the divide is really profound when it comes to menswear. korean and japanese notions of masculinity (i leave out china because i don't have a lot of expertise there) are different from those in the west. as a result, they buy all sorts of things that american men would never wear.
the more time i spend in asia, the more i realize that my idea of aesthetics is completely different from those who grew up in east asia. and i'm not talking average joes off the street--i mean people who study this stuff or work in this field or take an active interest in cultivating their taste.
one look around a metropolis like seoul or tokyo will show you that jeremy scott, although he has very little to "say" about america, still has an aesthetic that is very much a running commentary (intentional or not) on being young in one of the asian tigers.
tl;dr –– asian people gobble this stuff up, and their taste will begin to dominate the market soon enough.Last edited by copacetic; 02-16-2012, 11:37 PM.And "When the prince has gathered about him

Q: Did Jeremy Scott put out another 'same trunk / different junk' collection?
. . . .
Of course he did. And he will next season and the season after that, because this is his thing.
One doesn't go to Scott for everyday-wear or black tie, and granted, I'd only layer myself in it if I was playing dress-up with my friends' kids, but I guarantee you whoever is rockin' these psychofuck frocks lives the kind of lifestyle more than worthy of penning into a raunchy Times best-seller..
