    Yves Saint-Laurent Paris F/W08.09

    My favourite of this season.

A somewhat schizophrenic mix of 70s YSL homage and modern take on mod that should appeal to regular fans and a more modern, youthful clientele. This is like late 80s/early 90s HK movies; you?ve got everything in there yet it works perfectly well as a whole.

I actually really enjoy what Pilati is doing for the label and he seems like such a humble guy, I can't help but like him.

          These looks are excellent.

I really like what he is doing for Men's proportions, sometimes, even more so than Yohji. (Pilati's oversized coats for Fall were just jaw dropping)

Thank you for posting the pictures. I think this is possibly the best executed show of the season.... flawlessly faithful to the YSL man while being perfectly contemporary and modern. I love the range of silhouettes in the trousers especially; and the way the fabrics drape and fall in each cut without a hint of awkwardness. IIt's great to see Pilati live up to all the acclaim he got for his last men's collection. [79]

Fuuma, I can easily imagine you in these clothes![73]

Yes, it has a nice 70s reference, but that's it, it's nice at best.

It's so over polished, the surface is too clean.

Maybe this "without a hint of awkwardness" is what is wrong with Pilati.

              There is no off-center here! [79] ...

The house of YSL isn't cerebral and deconstructivist but romantic and elegant. You're looking for Bergman in a Fellini film.

What Fuuma says is true. Given what the brand stands for, this is a very good collection. A wee bit of VB influence, I would say - I think she is more concerned with the 70s middle class look, rather than the outright 70s pure elegance of YSL, but I could see this reflected here in some of the outfits. Overall, definitely good for YSL, and I could also see Fuuma wearing this.

                    Touché!

Reading the YSL/Lagerfeld book I am(and trying to stretch it out for as long as possible, it's so engrossing), this season seems totally appropos for YSL. I loved what Pilati did with the oversized proportions last season as well, although nothing looked right on me, but I like the interesting details here, like the inverted triangle pants silhouette and the quaint ankle detailing on the skinny slack (must make hemming it torture for shorter guys!).

I'm not looking for deconstructivism or what not, in the house of ysl, I'm simply expressing my opinion of the design at hand. Reinvention or becoming is more interesting words, which you can find both in Bergman and Fellini, no need for mixing them up, even though an interesting notion. When you're mentioning romantic and elegance, which Pilati's design has neither of, film maker Leon Carax's romantic is elegantly off-centered, so it is possible, but not in the hands of Pilati ...
