Maybe it's just not my idea of fun.....or maybe it's because Men in tights was such a bad movie....Either way, it just aint my steelo.

i meant the pictures are fun. I dont think i could see anyone wearing all of it at once. That is not fun to me either, nor my steelo [66] or what i find attractive on men. i like to see work that is totally opposite from what i would normally be drawn to and then think about it. i dont know much about the designer or previous looks to be able to judge more critically as you and others may. I am just basing this on the visual expression that I am looking at, and of course with the bias of a dancer...

EDIT: but i do like the idea of someone designing for dancers. with the idea of that type of movement in mind. perhaps some of this is not applicable to the normal wear, but it would be quite fantastic to see in the dance setting.

Brilliant might be hyperbole but I
still think he's very talented - it shows through much more in his
women's collections, while his mens collections to me (and Willhelm
himself, as he has said before) are really all about fun, and that they
certainly are. I think there are also some interesting ideas here. I
especially like the way that he shifts the focus of outfits to unusual
areas, be it an uncommon article (the garish socks) or part of the
                  body.

I was a dancer for a time as well so I admit to being partially biased. I really need to get back to it...

That seems an awfully small-minded way to approach a collection, chinorlz, no offense. I don't necessarily see this as any more costum-ey than your average Julius collection, and I'm sure there are many that approach fashion from a different angle / mindset that see it as rather the reverse.
Seriously. [^o)] Albert, the fact that you wouldn't wear it, doesn't mean much at all. Bernhard's stuff always sells out like crazy here, and I guarantee that this will be no exception.

(admittedly though, I would love to know whereall these wonderful Willhelm wearing creatures are, as I don't see them on the streets really....perhaps they only come out at night. [:^)])
To me, (sans the socks, perhaps) they're interesting and well-developed experiments with material and pattern primarily, and explorations of applying the ideas of perhaps one of the last and least explored "sporty" applications. Kim Jones and Throup et all have well covered soccer and high-endurance sports, but so far Willhelm is the first to examine dance.
I didn't think of that, but it's such a good point. I find these explorations of activewear so interesting conceptually and also very forward-looking somehow--that current of thinking has been on my mind a lot. Especially as a way of working with the body, as you mentioned in your other post.

I like this collectionvery much....it manages to beromantic, erotic and kitsch all at the same time. [64]The way he cuts clothes is amazing to me--everything is sothoughtfully and often intricatelydesigned yet executed with such simplicity. It's never difficult to fitand always very comfortable to wear. Maybe it's necessary to look past the styling and even handle the clothes in person to realize it, but I really think Bernhard has a huge talent. [79]

...I mean the ephemeral, the fugitive, the contingent, the half of art whose other half is the eternal and the immutable.

I'm sorry, I don't think Willhelm "examines" anything - he merely put his clothes on a bunch of dancers - that doesn't really amount to examining. if it does, than galliano has examined things far and wide...

                        I agree.

I also think it's way too literal to be taken as 'examining'. It'd be like Wilhelm putting clothing on football players and making everything look like football attire; It doesn't work. If there were elements of 'dance wear' included into wearable garments, I could see the experimentation as it would still speak to a person actually buying clothing to be worn every day, as clothing.

To further back my thinking; I don't really, nor have I ever really cared for a collection that is completely unwearable. Not to say all of this is unwearable, but it certainly isn't practical. The same goes for his last collection; He threw spandex wrestling jump suits on a famous gay porn star. It's just all, 'blah'.

Post exams, I am able to write more....

                          I strongly dislike this "collection."

The presentation is unoriginal, grossly homoerotic (it's not even subtle) and 99% of the clothes are unwearable. No matter what people wish they'd see on the street. Capelets, tights, saggy sock-type-things and BDSM tops just don't cut it for menswear.

I went through the photos and there are MAYBE 5 pieces (and I'm including the hat.)here that are maybe wearable. If you like overly patterned and quite boringitems that is. It comes down to some generic knit hoodies (that we've seen before), sweaters and a tank top that are wearable in this (edited) photo set.

The thing that really rubs me the wrong way about this is that to me, this is a collection that (based solely on this season's photo set, not from anything else that BW has done) presents you with nothing. It's not even playful. I feel like I'm looking at some outtakes of some fetishistic dancer porn site.

I'm not dismissing Wilhelm. I'm dismissing this collection based on these photos. If you were a buyer for this collection and this was all you could go by, would you even try to buy anything for your store? Probably not.

I'd like to see this season presented on the runway where you could hopefully see something that is more practical that still shows innovation.

It's pretty harsh of a criticism maybe... but even when MA+/CCP make scheisse items, they get their due criticism (prisoner/clown pants from MA+ inclusive)!

His presentation looks, once again, like Pierre and Gilles group portraits but there is some good stuff in there and I appreciate seeing it in motion. I just can't feel like I am in the target group, who I envision as some germandude with a mulletwho does makeup for I-D and sometimes dresses in drag.
