Personally, the tounge is what drew me to this boot instead of others. But to each his own. Feel free to recommend other boots, preferably at mid calf lenght.

Indeed that injected rubber sole detail they sometimes use isn't my favorite but I get leather soled shoes vibrammed by default. I briefly searched through the forum for discussion on boot tucks on short guys, but wasn't able to find anything. I hope that I'll be able to get some discussion and maybe tips here.

As a shorter guy (5'6"), I often struggle with what will and wont work with my height. I am now looking to purchase a pair of backzip boots with the intention of wearing them with a boot tuck, but am worried that wouldn't look good on me.

Depends on the proportion of the fit, I would say yes on the condition that the tuck is clean and the tones are similar. Bonus if you have a stacked heel (like Guidi) or thick chunky sole to extend the length of your lower vs upper leg. See Faust fits, basically.

^agree with DG. It's a lot easier to mess up, but there's always ways to make it work. I think elongated torsos and midlength coats/jackets go well with the tuck (a la Rick / Yohji).
