what's the correct Julius boot size for a US 8 - 8.5 ? Both size 1 and 2 will work? I mean is there a huge different in length?

          AFAIK

definitely size 1. size 2 will undoubtedly be too big for you.

some size 1s might even be loose on you.

Are there any good shops in Philly? I found the Joan Shepp Boutique online, but it says it's a women's store.

Will there be any shrinkage to boiled wool if cold washed? I know theoretically there shouldn't be any, but I heard very different things about this... Please help!

I washed a boiled wool jacket recently...warm water, then threw in the dryer on high for an hour. I thought it had shrunk, but then after wearing it once or twice, it seemed to stretch back out again.

now that's risky! so you'd say that it shrinks, but not considerably, right? maybe like a cotton sweater after the first wash?

Ruined one of my favourite boiled wool CDG jackets by washing it in the machine and then drying it.
Now it only just fits my wife...
                    Be careful.

If you're so desperate to wash it why not do a hand wash in cold water?

Agreed. Either hand wash in cold water or wash in the delicate cycle with cold water, and don't dry it.

that's what I intend to do anyway, but I'm afraid that even then it'll shrink too much. But I think that it'll help if I let it dry flat afterwards. Will do that and see what happens. :)

You and I have both had positive results with washing & drying leather, so I would love your feedback on this.

How many sizes would you say it shrunk?

I have been considering washing one of my CDG boiled wool pea coats. Its not quite 1 size too big on me, I typically use it as an overcoat layered over a blazer, but would rather wear it as an every day winter coat, since I rarely wear blazers these days.

Properly shrank down.... from a mens sz M (sz48) to a small women's size - probably the equivalent to a women's uk sz8.

From memory I washed it on a 40 degree wash and I was completely ruined.
                              Be very careful with wool
