speaking of buttons what type of thread do people recommend for stitching on coat/blazer buttons? I have a MA Julius blazer with a removable pair of buttons held together by a piece of thread, I'd like to replace the thread to tie them closer together to pinch the jacket in the waist a tad.

      Thanks
When I lived in Japan I never had to pay any customs fees/VAT on purchases from abroad.

Take it with a grain of salt though as I might just have been lucky because of my embassy address.

In addition to what has been said, I've put needle-nosed pliers through the hole, grasped the shoelace and pulled it through the hole.

Question to the French SZ members here....
what is your experience when buying from Japan? are there import taxes to surprise you upon delivery? (delivery in France obviously).
I'm considering buying from fascinate.jp and would like to know if there are hidden costs.... thanks in advance!

20% VAT + customs duty 'varies based on item(s) in question). last JP order i made was for a hoodie coat from IS and customs was 12%.

Ian+'s link from above post can help you find out what to expect for your particular items(s).

use a proxy instead, paying a small fee (8-10%) saves you all the trouble.

^ this. I used to order directly from Fascinate but they changed their policy regarding marking down packages a couple of years back.

I would recommend using From Japan. In general:

a = item's value + shipping from the store to proxy + shipping to you

                          you pay: a + a*proxy_fee

You don't have to worry about customs because the mark down the declared value.
Contact them and they will further instruct you.
