                it's just street, man... um. well, for me I like my tops over-sized at the moment but it's with the intent of de-sexualizing clothing and that's the appeal to me. not to mention the effect it has on the silhouette. it depends on the piece.

                also, of course it caught on being part of street culture - lower classes buying their clothes too big and the connotations with this subculture and it's icons. this was a huge part of the culture I was surrounded with growing up. there's certainly that reference as well. (Raf was heavily influenced at the time by UK schoolboy/adolescent dress, i believe.)

                also, not sure what you were trying to say about the fellow in the pic, but I don't think he does that iconic piece justice...
