^ hell yeah. This is one great movie. And in general, Johnny Depp often plays great roles. I always enjoy the Tim Burton x JD collab although the movies themselves are often not that great but it's more like a one-man-show.

currently obsessed with Erzebeth Barthory (actualy found a vitage jacket at the flea market yesterday that strongly reminds me of her. I now call it my Erzebeth jacket)

galia: what about Marguerite de Valois.

And the film about her: La Reine Margot. Lots of prettiness there I think - I've always remembered the wedding procession scene, with her in that high collar.
There is however a somewhat strange choice of music in what sounds to me like Duruflé, but somehow it works too.

I really hated that movie, whilst I think The Countess is a masterpiece of sorts

also Erzebeth Bathory is a much darker and more interesting character than Marguerite de Valois
however, the sartorial aesthetic is similar, I agree. Except I think I like the Hungarian starkness more. However, as a Bela Lugosi fan, I must confess I am partial to both Hungary and Transylvania (yes, I was goth when I was younger, bite me)

@corsair - i get the sense that image inspired a scene in Inception

edit - not always hip to Sarty's choices but this dude got it goin' on

Corsair : I love this painting, it's been fascinating me for the first time I've seen it. Looks like the point of departure for so many potential novels.

Besides, you just have to put it next to Friedrich's Wanderer above the mist - and you have one century of profound changes sumed up in two pictures.
I can see a hat, I can see a cat,
I can see a man with a baseball bat.

Cosair, what is that title of that painting? It is on the cover of my copy of Javier Marias's novel "Corazon tan Blanco"
