my mom used to do renaissance fairs and civil war re-enactments. She wore bustle gowns, a little more dated and fancy than those ladies, and really big hats that she had to pin to her hair, and threw tea parties that tourists could observe or would spin yarn on a wheel or weave it on a loom. all while acting in character.
fwiw the ladies outfits were a lot more interesting than the men's but I liked the men's and women's outfits at renaissance fairs much better. less constricting. I still have my poofy shirt and breeches.
