    thank you for the recommendation.
oh yeah...that's a pricy one. and opinions are very divided at basenotes, but I'll give it a try if I can find a sample.

Any other recommendations? Has anyone tried the CDG colognes? Do they still smell classic or are they more experimental?

it is worth the extra cost,
you get a bottle that lasts ages,
and the scent stays with you all day...
      even with only one spray.

Vettiveru from the CdG Cologne series is very very good (my fave from the series by a mile), it's a slightly "dirty" vetiver (as opposed to the more soap-ish vetiver fragrances which I dislike), not all all wierd/experimental. A light scent so you can splash it all over yourself, which explains the large bottles (the new bottles are only 4 oz, you can get the older 12oz bottles for cheap here: http://store.inthebathroom.com/codegavebofr.html).

They haven't been released yet, but I am intereseted in trying the Damir Doma at least. The perfumer seemed to have a good grasp of what DD is about and if he interpreted it into the scent as well as he describes then it should be good, if you like the notes.

My new recent favorites are(linked to luckyscent because they have pretty good descriptions)...

          Nasomatto - Black Afgano

          Nasomatto - Duro

Serge Lutens - Un Bois Vanille

By Kilian - Back to Black aphrodisiac

By Kilian - Pure Oud(Great pics and review from Nathan Branch)

          Mark Buxton - Black Angel

          Mark Buxton - Around Midnight

Glad you like it! I'm always happy when someone likes my recommendations. Like a little connection.

                  I'm hunting a cologne/perfume primarily consisting of:
                  Wood (Cedar or sandalwood ideally)
                  Patchouli
                  Leather
                  Amber

                  With hints of :
                  Musk
                  Spices (Pepper or clove ideally)

                  And maybe notes of rose

EDIT: Incense wasn't right. WTF happened to my brain there?

                    Have you tried LeLabo fragrances?
                    Creed Vetivier is also great.

                      You should try sampling these:

                      Montale's Patchouli Leaves
Andy Tauer's L'Air De Desert Marocain

Will try the first two. I use Noir Epices now and again but it's too spicy and not woody/mellow enough for what I'm hunting. Musc Ravageur and Bois I can't recall, but neither struck my fancy.

No, I don't think I've ever heard of diptyque. Any particular recommendations?

I have to admit that I don't really enjoy subtle fragrances. I like ones that just play with one note. For example, right now I wear CdG Carnation which, once the intensely vibrant first 15 minutes are over, smells like a clove cigarette. I also like Jaipur Homme edc, which is vanilla from top to bottom, then mixed with some vanilla and topped off with a subtle note of vanilla. I also like CdG's citrus series, especially grapefruit, which smells just like... well, the name gives it away.
