/\ So, I was walking by All Saints today, which just opened in NYC, and I remembered you complaining about them, so I decided to walk in. HOLY KNOCKOFF CENTRAL!!! I saw Lanvin, Rick, Ann, Damir, Julius all knocked off. (Balmain, too, but who gives a shit about that).

Ok, which one of you fuckers lurking on this forum work for the All Saints design team?!

You poor bastards.. the All saints plague is spreading worldwide... the shit holes are everywhere here in the UK, knocking off look after look..... i also know for a FACT that they buy and copy Paul Harnden jackets ....

The head menswear designer used to work at L'E.
He was the reason for the whole aesthetic turn around. He was an immense raf fan boy and constantly travels to JP to source goodies,aswell as boutiques in london.

He is a nice guy though.His missus is a designer and used to have a boutique just of carnaby street.

But its still high street (rather higher level high street)and thats what the high street does.

They have a turn around of new stock every 6 weeks!

Yeah, how is the quality of All Saints stuff? I assume it's pretty low considering what context it's put in here, but I could very well be wrong. I'll check it out next week when i'm in ny.

For high street,the quality is better than most. You cant really compare it quality wise to labels discussed on here.
But saying that,the prices they charge for some pieces,your better off putting a few bob ontop and getting a better a product,in terms of quality and fit.

Regarding All Saints, I'm not sure if quality comes into question for me. I would rather their inspired designs, be a bit more inspired and less literal. I understand the need for these kinds of stores, just hoping that the aesthetic won't catch on and it will just be one big mistake and they can go back to doing Diesel type shit.

shame on me for saying this, but if they actually knock off paul harnden well i would buy it for i certainly don't foresee myself affording the actual thing in the near future..

All Saints is weird...for as much as they knock off the usual suspects, they also have a lumberjack/flannel/aberchrombie vibe going on in there.
I think the quality is pretty crap compared to the cost.
If you go into the new store in NYC, grab something and turn it inside out...look at the seams and hems and stitching and cut.
It's no different than H&M for the most part (pieces I looked at) but they cost 4 times as much.

I have a pair of shoes from there because they were cheap and convenient at the time but I mean, they sell blank basic tees for $40 a piece, which blows my mind.

Best to save your money and shoot for next tier unless you just want a piece for one season in terms of cost vs. quality.

This is exactly what i was saying in my post above. You cannot compare construction techniques and overall quality to labels discussed here. It would be rather naive to.

Along with the literal copies of designers spoken about here,the reason they do the lumberjack,abercrombie thing is because it is more commercial.
In terms of (commercial)street wear in London its quite on 'trend'.
In London, especially in the East,you cant get away from the check shirt/dark denim/hiking boot/trickers/penny loafer look.

IMO in terms of the high street, its just the next step after the over saturated indie band uniform.

But let's be honest in terms of construction and materials:
You can get really, really solid craftsmanship in clothing that isn't super expensive and you can get really, really shitty craftsmanship in clothing that costs a mint.

I'm saying for what they charge, the quality (from what I saw) appeared crappy.

It would be more appropriate to compare All Saints to H&M or Urban Outfitters' house brand (BDG) than it would be to compare them to the brands discussed on here. It's just quite a bit more expensive than both of those.

But the most damning part is the blatant theft of design. That probably trumps the mediocre quality in terms of reasons not to support.

beardown We are saying the same thing. I wholeheartedly agree with you. Although my responses may not have been so clear.

At the end of the day many people are not as educated in terms of design/construction/fabric.
I think it was merz that said, the main aspect of design is does shit look sick as fuck(or something along those lines).
That is how many people purchase clothing,irrelevant of fabric cut and construction.

Heirloom I beleive the head womens designer is a lady called Maria Chen(g). She once had her own label and a boutique on Londons South Molton street many years ago.

I have an old friend that is a pattern cutter at All Saints and she specialises in dresses.
