'Not quite' means she wasn't a qualified practitioner - there is no more or less about it. The fact that she was a 'nice' nun is irrelevant. I am amazed that someone unqualified feels it is appropriate for them to diagnose a highly complex disorder so casually. Would you accept a diagnosis of cancer from the milkman, if he was a nice milkman?

They're garters, and have been around forever. I think only old men wear them now, if anyone. As it's not a habit of mine to look under trouser hems of old dudes, I can't say for sure though.

Funny, TheThief and I were at IF yesterday, I picked up an Attachment-copy-of-Rick drapey cardigan, and had exact same reaction. It was a bit sad, a moment where you feel, well, it was good while it lasted, even though you don't want to feel it. Not that I am running to Tom Brown in any near (or not near) future.

I dunno, I think he's pretty brilliant as an absurdist. There's quite a lot of skill in his construction and cleverness in his play with references.
