some WTFs are most excellent
You can't get RO in Portland, Oregon.
But there IS a guy in a basement there turning out couture editions from the man's work.
For dogs.
for posterity, a screenshot:
for immediacy, the eBay link
The best part being this notation:
Made from main collection Rick Owens materials, not DRKSHDW or any bridge lines.
And to think, I've been dressing my little one in virtual rags in comparison.

I mean, none of us have seen it in person. I assume it's "decent" quality, in lue with everything else he's released the last year.
anywhere in SE asia will sell all sorts of alligator leather for very cheap.
This can't cost more than 1000 use, tops. including labor and overhead

not referencing the RO jacket however real alligator goods are very expensive in the US... simple, "no name"alligator belts can easily sell for $300 right next to "ordinary" leather belts that sell for $25. same goes for shoes. I'm not judging the aesthetics of alligator leather only saying that you couldn't buy a real alligator leather jacket made by anyone for $1k in the US. also keep in mind that most stuff you see that looks like alligator is actually embossed/stamped cow or polyurethane

just an estimate - feel free to correct this if you have better numbers:
if we assume that the retail mark-up is around 3 (quite common), then the wholesale price is 18000. then assuming RO apply a similar mark-up (not uncommon for brands at this level, but which actually could very well be LESS in this situation because of target pricing factors for such a high-ticket item), their purchasing price from supplier would be 6000. (no way are RO paying the manufacturer 1000...) the supplier most likely has a lower unit contribution margin, so perhaps the actual industrial cost of the finished garment ends up somewhere around 2500, most of which will be the cost of the leather.
and buying exotic leather products of unclear (illegal) origin in SE asia is just not a relevant comparison... not just because of where/how they are sourced, but also because of the differences in leather quality. legal WILD aligator skin not too scarred for use in high fashion garments does NOT come cheap.Last edited by Shucks; 09-30-2013, 08:29 PM.
