i think people give legitimacy to him for a couple more reasons than that.
1) he has an online presence
2) he rips off trendy brands and styles with no real regard for the look or meaning
3) there's no accounting for taste
all of it comes together to form the train wreck that is the new wave of designers; birthed by tumblr and encouragement from other shitty designers.

they are ski/snowboard pants with a "cover" that prevents snow from going inside your jacket/pants if you fall down. Yea it might look funny worn just like that, but its functional"AVANT GUARDE HIGHEST FASHION. NOW NOW this is it people, these are the brands no one fucking knows and people are like WTF. they do everything by hand in their freaking secret basement and shit."

He obviously cares about trends. Remember all the man dresses he was pumping not too long ago? He quickly figured out that the market for these garments was very limited (not trendy enough) and altered course with tailoring that is more western. I see him going the same way as Damir - floundering when he figures out how tiny the market is for his look and trying to tweak his design sensibility in a way that will find a larger market...to mixed results.
