Flipping through NYFW photos on various sites, I can't believe I'm both obsessed with fashion and yet hate so much of it so much. How is it that all the people and outfits in all the pictures look so ostentatious and gaudy? And god, to think that I probably come off as some goth punky variant of those people, maybe this is a sign that I should exercise a little restraint.

I can't say that I really get anything out of hating on it, either; it's not intentional in the least. It's just that I see it and my gut reaction is "ew." I know I'm no better than them, maybe even worse off as many of them look polished to a pro level and they're very successful at what they do, but I can't deny the way the photos make me feel instinctively. Maybe like, "damn, so this is what people find appealing, how alienating."

I'm with you on the vintage CdG, though. There's some outrageously good unique stuff out there. I've been trying to convince myself that I would have enough legit occasions to wear a CdG pleated skirt or skort but not so many that I'd have to stress about having it cleaned.

But there is something to get out of hating if you put enough philosophical distance from the subject. It can be a lot of fun and entertaining, in the Oscar Wilde way.

Anger porn is a great word for this thread, haha. I've found that anger is definitely the most difficult emotion to contain. Emotions are very easy for me to conceal, but anger into rage is something else. I still enjoy anger on some level, it's a very selfish emotion and feels righteous. It has a way of making nothing else matter and even helps me focus on doing something productive if I stay in control of it. It's easier to get things done when the rest of the world is shut out.

Of course, there are downsides, and losing control of it is never good. As for whether I'm ever joking, the common thread among my close friends seems to be that they never take anything I say or do too seriously, no matter how serious I might be.

I really don't see a problem, compared to Emmanuelle Alt and Anna Wintour she's a groundbreaking intellectual. Her mags will prob be better than 95% of menswear shit with their GQ advices about how to wear a tie but look fun.

I get what you're saying and it is not like I follow what Roitfeld does. However Wintour champions a fake aesthetic of ladies that lunch blandly Photoshopped and I shouldn't joke about Alt's intelligence because that's just mean.

I'm not sure what a "curator of cool" is supposed to be but I sense that it is deeply uncool.
