I didn't say I'm the one defending the status quo either. The status quo is classism. Racism is a convenient way to perpetuate it by creating division -- "positive" and "negative" division alike.

People want real, meaningful equality rooted in talent and empathy -- not reluctant tolerance with other motivations behind it. And not a handout.

You need to live in this country to understand what Arkady means. "White" is usually straight white US-born people. I am white, but I have an accent. When I was growing up in immigrant Brooklyn, believe me when I tell you that I got a fair share of shit from the cops. As soon as they heard your accent, you were not much different from a black.

The kinds of kids that went on to become cops that I know were no different in behavior than those who ended up being criminals. Violence-prone bullies, assholes, and dimwits. It's one easy way to get power and o.k. middle class income for someone who is too fucking dumb to get an office job.

The most privileged people in America when it comes to police treatment are white girls. It's amazing what they can get away with.
