I must say, I still don't get it (the Engrish part). Maybe I am slow.

          *whispers : " W.S. Burroughs"*

But of course there are other more mundane reasons.......

I admit, I suck at Burroughs. Only got through 1/3rd of Naked Lunch (both the book and the movie). And then that whole Nike commercial business. ugh...

              Burroughs for Fausts :

Rule 1 : "Language is a virus from outer space"

Rule 2 : "CUT UP THE WORD"

I suppose. Just could never get excited over him too much. Maybe because of that Nike commercial :-) I prefer Orwell when it comes to keeping the language away from dirty hands.

                      Much respect to Orwell

I think Burroughs was trying to carry on that anti-authority / control agenda.

David Bowie combined the 2 inspirations on Diamond Dogs.

                      Fkk Nike though : )

Yeah but Bill doesnt say shit about Nike

He is talking about technology and quite critically too

He totally hi-jacked their control system and turned it in on itself

                        Genius !!!

/\ Right. That's not my interpretation, but I am not disclaiming yours. Good night now. Everyone, behave til Lowrey wakes up.

But for now I need to say something to avoid the stigma of your last sentence (a point i often make myself). I don't so much feel that there is a problem with the ideas julius' collections stem from, more their articulation- which to me is often over the top in the way that would leave others stamped 'instant fail'. For example the cargo pants that the seem to do quite often which are so over pocketed that they would make a GI jealous, especially in leather. I also wonder why it is that the leather jackets are the only items lusted after from previous seasons. I think it must be because they are the only thing which can be worn and not have you look like mad max, quilt coat excluded.

I know there are some nice pieces here and there, and some of these do appeal to me. It's just than in most cases these are not those which could be labelled distinctly julius. When this happens it leaves me doubting a designer's vision.
I'll come back to it tomorrow but I believe you're rooting your opinion in a cultural confusion linked to minimalism as an universal (western) aesthetic virtue.

I know nothing about Burroughs so this comment may be completely stupid, but I think a man who fundamentally discards one of my passions (Rule 1) is worth reading, if only to discover the root of his madness.

It is the idea , also mentioned in the bible BABEL story , that language has served mankind as more of a divider , a reason to hate another than as a tool to create community ( equally as valid ).

Language , even in this Thread , is often used as a means to ridicule.

Wars have been fought over miscommunication

And of course the written word has been used as a means of control down through the centuries.

"The written word is a lie ! "
