For my birthday last week, my wife surprised me with a 1978 Rolex Perpetual Date (34mm) in stainless with a black face. For my small-ish wrists it works out nicely and the black face w/steel casing is just perfect!

... next I'd love to get the Explorer with a leather band for business/work wear, but that will have to wait a while.

Many thanks to everyone in this thread for the education. My wife did some recon evidently on what watches and watch model discussions I've been having to pick this one out!

Happy birthday buddy. My sons birthday was also last week!

The watch looks absolute perfectly sized on your wrist. Also looks like a very well looked after and stunning 1978 vintage.

Congrats and your wife obviously has excellent taste.

Thinking about getting more into watches, I usually use a pocket watch from my great grandfather, or my gruen curvex.

Thank you! Sounds like your son is also a Valentines day baby?

I shared your compliments with my wife and she was very pleased. Thank you for the kind words!

Yes... I've started to dig a bit deeper. Some form of leather-banded Rolex will likely be my next purchase, but nothing for now :)

Watching the proles shit up watch threads on deal forums with "my phone shows the time just as well" is priceless.

1971 Rolex 1680 single red submariner (with original inner and outer box, punched papers, hang tags and all the bits)

Swapped out the Cyclopse eye plexi for a domed plexi.

                    Great investment piece.
                    Super super happy

Great 1680! Case looks nice, also the yellowish bone colored lume is spot on. Always prefered that to the flat white color which is pretty common in 1680 ref.
