These drkshdw memphis tend to run 1 size small actually and it's quite stretchy though.
Maybe you should buy 28 and 29 BOTH and return the other, one can do that. Unless you've tried size 28, they could be too small for you.

It's actually the opposite, I sized down one. While the legs, especially in the calf area, are tight the waist tends to be huge and after a while you can't wear them without a belt.

Yes, it's more or less the same case for me (unless not to a necessity of sizing it down) but if you can't fit your calves in this tight area it's not much use for you the waist area is fine.
I have to use a belt myself but at least my legs are fine (and there is another issue of them being too short for me).

Yes they tend to be short on taller people. I am 178 cm and they are fine.

Never had an issue with them (twice iirc): however, my return tags were intact and I live in the EU.
