^ Stating out maximum bids is really not working. You can just say something that maybe isn't even true. Also auctions dont always reach the maximum bid.

At a proxy probably first come, first served. Just post that you're bidding on something, when you think others will too from here, and people can see it. That way if others are bidding too you can sort it out with eachother.

that is true, but in these situations the maximum bid is not really relevant anymore it is more one's generosity etc.

I used to participate on those games at Uni which were set up by business students who wanted to find out about human market behaviour. You had a x amount of money which you could spend on yourself or on others. If everyone from the test group would have spent generously on others and you would be the only one who spent on yourself you would have made the biggest win. Or you are generous yourself and think all the others are too...and so on, pretty interesting. Amd it relates to the situation here.
