I actually think uniqlo has been transformative in a way for the masses. It's well designed, well conceived, affordable, etc.

h&m's corporate hierarchy should be held criminally responsible for the shit they get up to.
the only way what i described could happen is if there was a fundamental shift in the way we make clothing. like robots or material printers or taking the DNA of italian artisans and using them to clone the torsos and arms so they could sew all day and subsist on a nutrient paste. the way we make clothing now cannot ever be done very cheaply - even rapacious sweatshops have huge external costs.

Can I just point out, that unintentionally you just brought up a key distinguishing factor between my comparison of jobs and kawakubo, she uses seemingly inexpensive fabrics to keep costs down and jobs never would accept design and manufacturing as separate entities...but I firmly believe Rei understands fashion can cut corners and still offer an exceptional product, as long as the "glue" doesn't show, so to speak.
