    Speak for yourself:

    THIS IS JUST TO SAY

    I have eaten
    the plums
    that were in
    the icebox

    and which
    you were probably
    saving
    for breakfast

    Forgive me
    they were delicious
    so sweet
    and so cold

Same thoughts here. Hunger for constant information appears to me as a poor remedy to a deep, global boredom.

I would imagine DBC was being sarcastic. In any case - Hobo, if you think that helps the store, no reason not to do it.

Since when were poems expected to work hard?

I was not defending the modern mind (whose indolence I am intimately acquainted with) but illustrating the absurdity of quantifying thoughts in characters.

[edit] That last sentence would fit nicely in a tweet by the way.

Since the time of high modernism.

Here is my favorite sketch about it - not sure if viewable outside the states.

This was funny too. Of course right next to the article is an icon so you can tweet it.

Faust, I didn't ask "since when were poetry readers expected to work hard?"

Conversley, Carlos Williams' "post-it note" stanzas above invented the form of the lyric as a practical object, so they could be described as the hardest working poem in the canon.

Page 1000 in the WAYWT thread and we are discussing the aspects and excesses of modern life.

Nice discussion, but for a minute:
